This week we managed to catch up with Amateur 250 ripper Chad Paulsen. Chad has been assaulting the 250 AM class this year and got the chance to learn about how his Mx Simulator Career has gone so far.....I finally plucked up the courage to get Mx Simulator sometime late in 2014 or early 2015 after seeing a red bull straight rhythm edit and becoming obsessed with the game. Like most I tried the demo and gave up for a while before giving it another try, and I was instantly hooked. I never got into racing until later on in my sim career as a YouTube video had recommended just grinding time trials to get better so that’s what I did, i would then spend the best part of five years grinding time trials by myself except for one RF Amateur Supercross race I tried in 2017 where i ended up going 18th in the heat and 13th in the LCQ. Eventually I started meeting other people in the community through my brother Cody or hanging out in Elsinore servers. After I met the #1 homie Leon Tye and started racing RF a bit more in 2019, I finally began to get some kind of speed after playing the game for 5 years, but I was still wasn't where i wanted to be for sure,it was a struggle to even make the motos, but it was a big improvement from being the slow annoying guy in the back of the pack in an Elsinore server. I actually started to get the kind of speed that could put me top 10 in Amateurs during what I refer to as the COVID grind where during quarantine in April - June 2020 I was playing like 8-10 hours a day with all the homies on the MYTCO Team(rip).
However, even with this new found speed I still never quite managed to turn these into results as I was too prone to making mistakes which ultimately led to me never getting any kind of good finishes. Looking back on this now i guess this is just an experience thing that you pick up along the way. Finally, that brings us to 2021 where after grinding for Supercross I gave up right as the season started and only ended up doing a few races after I saw how much speed the top Amateurs had over me lowkey i still believe a lot of the top guys were sandbagging, but I guess I shouldn’t be talking as I’ve been playing longer than 95% of the current Amateurs but regardless I did not want the smoke. After a good offseason before outdoors and deciding to switch full time to 250's to better prepare for pro, I finally managed to breakthrough and get my first moto and overall win at the opener at Fox Raceway which was a really cool moment as it had been the culmination of so many years of grinding the game. But as I probably should’ve expected my damn inconsistency has gotten the better of me for most of the races since round one, I’m still top 5 in the championship though so I can’t complain. I never really thought I’d get to this level when I started playing as a 14-year-old kid but the friends I’ve made through this game are some of my closest and I’m excited to see where I can get to in the future. It's definitely gonna take some more grinding but its Mx Simulator so what else can we expect. |
