Interview with Reno Brennan |
Interview with Cody Cooper |
So, what inspired you to come back for this season?
My team convinced me to race the first round and I did pretty good, so I raced round two and got the red plate. After that I just kept going and never lost it Did you find the game coming back to you quickly or was it a slow build in the offseason? Even though I quit racing I never fully quit playing. My team and I basically just ride sand turn tracks and throw oppos when we play, so the hardest part was getting used to the hot laps and race pace How did you find the competition to be this season given that you won the championship by 40 points? Honestly, I just had a lot of good luck early in the season. There were some fast dudes in the class, they just didn’t have that trademark WildSide consistency. I was the only person in the top 5 in points who didn't have a pointless moto I believe. It looks like your team dominated a bit in the 450s this year coming 1 and 2 in the championship, was there any tension in the calls between you or were you guys able to just keep it fun? We actually went 1-2-3 and there really was never any tension. For us it just felt like usual, all of us battling and if anything, we were a little cleaner with each other. Will you be going back to pro next year or do you intend to defend your championship, everyone likes to run that #1 after all? I actually won’t be racing this season. After I wrapped up the championship, I remembered why I quit racing in the first place. It takes the fun out of the game for me when I have to worry about results. My plan right now is to race pro Daytona and pro Southwick next year since those are my favorite rounds. Other than that, though I'll just be retaining my status as the fmx goat of sim. If you go pro next year, I believe you will have to go down to 250s, if so, how do you find that you will be able to overcome that challenge? As said in the previous Question Reno won’t be coming back for the supercross season however he left me with one final message: Thanks to y’all for the interview and if anyone thinks they can beat me in a game of bike just @ me. So, you have obviously grown crazy fast in these past few months, any tips for those of us who can’t seem to find that extra second a lap?
Before mx started I was just doing demos really, that seemed to help with my consistency, but I would recommend doing time trial to gain the 1-2 seconds a lap. The title fight was close there for a while between you and Joey Arico, being on the same team for much of the season (a team which I owned with Joey) did you find it hard to play with him during qualifying or were you able to put the rivalry behind you? Well, I would be in a call with Joey for most of the races and there would always be good battles whenever the two of us were up front. Living in the EU racing an NA title can be challenging at times with the time difference between the two regions was there ever a situation where you were almost unable to race due to the start time? For sure, most races I was falling asleep during the consolation races haha, but seriously it was definitely hard staying up until 4 to then wake up at 7 for school the next day. Do you have a race in particular where you realized “hey, I can win this championship” or was it a situation where you always knew that you could win? Well from the beginning I knew I could definitely win it but I knew some fast people were going to be on the gate so I thought it was going to be between us two, but I would say I was more confident before round 1 then after ha-ha. I also had Flexkex putting me through a program throughout the season and it played out well. Wrapping up a title in the dominating fashion that you did, you certainly must feel a bit of pressure to go into pro, will you move up or will you stay in ams next year? Well, the plan is to go into the pro class but I haven’t gotten my A license ha-ha as I have been waiting for it since SX 2021 but who knows what I will be racing in 2022. as for the pressure thing I don’t really care about sim like I did during the outdoors season so I’ll just show up try have fun and see what we can do. Lastly is there anything you’d like to say about your upcoming racing plans such as your team, series you plan to race and so on? For the 2022 SX season I will be racing 250 Pro East and be a part of "Eyespec" (Madestickers.com), They helped me as a team win the champ especially as my sort of sim coach Flexkex is the owner of the team. |
