You’ve been making some really cool tracks for a while now, what made you want to get into track building?
Thank you! Well, the 2 biggest reasons was to help EMF with future tracks as well as make some fun track for me and my friends to spin laps on! What tips would you give to someone just starting out with track building, someone who really wants to contribute to the community but doesn’t have much information on the more complex things? From my experience overdoing and failure is key. Don’t be afraid to go crazy in the track editor, Play with the tools until u figure them out also don’t be too hard on yourself, even people who been making tracks for years struggle. It’s not easy to make tracks but it will always be worth the 100+ hours when u get a nice comment. How did you come to be the official track builder for the WMS series, is being a track builder for a big series like this always been a track building goal of yours or is this just something that seemed like a fun challenge? Well, my main intention was to help EMF, they have been giving us free series for ages and I wanted to give back. So, late 2019 early 2020 I started to teach myself track building shortly after they asked me to help them with the tracks. I can’t say it was a goal but as a track creator you want people to play and enjoy your tracks so being an official builder gave me the extra motivation to keep griding and improve. What kind of scaling do you use for the WMS championship, in addition what resources are you using to make these replicas accurate; go pros, google maps, etc. Ha-ha well I would not recommend my process of making replicas, I’m actually really clueless when it comes to scaling, overlays, erode etc. I always start with a completely flat track with nothing on it, all I use as a resource is one 1 GoPro video and the track editor. I know there are much easier ways to do it but getting help with these things is not easy, so I just stuck with what I knew. Also, I would like to point this out, if I found a section really boring or it wouldn’t ride well in sim, I would brainstorm something and add my own touch to it. I would rather have the be track fun and enjoyable over it being 100% accurate. I know people say the tracks are not 100% accurate and I do it on purpose for the fun factor and I hope people can understand that! How do you take to people’s criticisms of the tracks, they are mostly complaints out of anger right after a crash, but it still must be irritating to see your hard work be criticized like that? I’m going to be honest. There’s no worse feeling, hearing people complain and actually be angry at you for spending 100 and 100 hours of my free time FOR FREE is indescribable. I’m also really bad with criticism, I want to make everyone happy at all times but it’s obvious that will never happen. Luckily, I haven’t had to deal with too much hate compared to other creators yet but I’m sure that will change. For the people who do complain without having any creative criticism to give, try keep it within your friend group instead, I don’t want to hear it and it only lowers my motivation and makes the tracks worse. I have to say there is a very different feel to your WMS tracks compared to the dog tracks, do you think your experiences now creating these replica tracks will now influence your custom track building? Yeah absolutely, I’ve felt like sim has been lacking a skill gap for a while now, I’ve been trying to focus heavily on roughness and erode, after all its a simulator game and I’m trying to get the roughness closer to IRL. You shouldn’t be able to hit 1 line all moto Yeah, I’ve learned A LOT building these replicas and hopefully when the WMS is done, I can start working on more custom tracks of better quality for the community :D And finally, what are your plans going forward, do you intend to branch out into supercross track building and help out for the supercross season, or would you rather keep it to outdoors, in addition you’ve released probably more tracks than anyone else has in a single year is there any drive to keep up your high-volume releases? I think I will stick with outdoors tracks for a while, I’ve never been a fan of SX because I suck at it, and we have loads of talented people making SX tracks already! As long as I enjoy the game, I will keep making tracks, and for the future I’ll try to focus more on the quality of my tracks, making sure they are worth the time spent. |
